An Education? What is it Good For Anyway?

#1) To start off, a great a course in miracles bookstore equips you with power. When you graduate from school, progressing through elementary school, middle school, high school, college and university, etc., the education that they provide gives you power over your future. It’s true that you can get “on the job” training for some jobs, but they are getting rarer as time goes on. Many employers won’t even consider you if you don’t have the minimum educational requirements.

#2) A well-rounded education also provides you with a greater quality of life. When the economy starts to turn sour, many people get laid off. It’s often those who lack in education or skills who get laid off first. Worse still, since they have less education, they will have a harder time finding a new position.

#3) A well-rounded education also provides you with understanding. Say you are going on a trip to Asia, China to be more specific. You may never have gone to China before, but by studying and educating yourself about this country before you go, you will have a greater understanding of China, and the Chinese, before you even set foot in the country.

#4) A well-rounded education can provide you with tremendous networking opportunities. Perhaps you have heard of the saying “birds of a feather flock together”? Having a good education means that you will meet more “birds” who “flock around” similar places and jobs. They will know when jobs open, and who you should contact. This will come in handy when you need to get that “foot in the door”.

#5) With a well-rounded education you become more resourceful. Nobody knows everything about everything, but a well-rounded education equips you with principles that you will be able to apply to any situation. This is important because you will be able to succeed in situations that you have never faced before. For example, suppose asks you what time it is. You might not have your own personal watch handy, but if there is a clock on the wall, you could tell them what time it is. Why is this? You have been educated to tell time in the past, so you know basically how to do it no matter where you are. You don’t need to have your own personal watch…you can use the clock on the wall. An extremely simple example, yes, but you get the point…

#6) A well-rounded education makes you a more fun person to be around. No matter what topic someone happens to bring up at the dinner table, you will be able to intelligently jump in and offer your “2 cents worth”. Suppose you meet someone at a party who tells you they are from a small country in the pacific. Suppose you reply that you have read a bit about his country of Fiji, and can offer some details on the climate and economy. Won’t that be a great way to make a new friend?

These are just a few ways why education is important. There are a number of ways in which we can educate, such as math comic strips and math comic books to teach essential math skills to children, and we will deal with these issues in an upcoming article.
